A First Warn Weather Day is in effect today with three rounds of severe storms, including a risk for tornadoes.

Residents are urged to review safety tips, including avoiding underpasses — driving to safe shelters and sturdy buildings.

Johnny Waller Jr. launched the Jordyn L.

Waller Second Chance Scholarship Fund in honor of his son, promising $500 awards to justice-impacted individuals in Kansas City and Jackson County starting Fall as they pursue education or career training. He said the fund aims to help others rebuild their lives.

Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt reported that Kansas storms cost insurers over $128 million in 2025 for the Kansas City metro — with nearly 82,500 claims filed across counties.

She urged residents to review their policy ahead of potential severe weather today.

On Mar. 5, Sharon Chen from KCTV5 discussed how hundreds of Kansas City area bridges received the lowest passing grade in Missouri's state rating system — a sign that local infrastructure needs closer review.
