Mrs. Aubrey Shortino—kindergarten teacher at Trailridge Elementary—was named Teacher of the Year after 19 years of teaching, chosen by a joint committee from the school district and the Chamber of Commerce from a pool of 11 candidates.

Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson reviewed her first 90 days by noting that since January her office charged, convicted or secured guilty pleas in 31 cases and now sends domestic violence and drug dealing cases directly to her office to help prevent harm.
