CRIME NEWS

  • The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol have issued a Silver Alert for 66-year-old Susan L. Bowerman, who was reported missing Wednesday from her home on the 24000 block of Happy Hollow Road in Independence — she has dementia, is about 5 feet 6 inches tall with blond hair and blue eyes, may be wearing white and orange pajamas, and anyone with information is urged to call 911 immediately.  KMBC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mrs. Aubrey Shortino—kindergarten teacher at Trailridge Elementary—was named Teacher of the Year after 19 years of teaching, chosen by a joint committee from the school district and the Chamber of Commerce from a pool of 11 candidates. Mary Davis, a resource aide with 18 years at Trailridge, was named Support Professional of the Year after being selected from nearly 100 nominees.  Lee's Summit Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson reviewed her first 90 days by noting that since January her office charged, convicted or secured guilty pleas in 31 cases and now sends domestic violence and drug dealing cases directly to her office to help prevent harm. She said her team will use the Crime Strategies Unit to focus on repeat offenders — and she urged the public to report any suspicious activity.  KCTV5

  • Worlds of Fun will reopen on May 3 with major upgrades—its Africa-themed section now features an enclosed spiral lift on the Zambezi Zinger, 400 feet of new track on the Prowler, refreshed paint on rides, and new shade structures. The TimberWolf coaster will stay closed this season while special events like exclusive previews, kid-run park days, and themed nights add extra excitement.  KMBC
