➤ Volunteers raised about 100 American flags arranged in a triangle at the new Veterans Memorial at John Knox Village to honor veterans and 20 deceased spouses. Today the community will host a special event inside The Pavilion — a salute to those who gave their lives in service. KMBC

CULTURE NEWS

➤ Addison Ditamore from Lee’s Summit High School will compete in the Miss Missouri’s Teen pageant where her service project on veteran mental health builds on the work of reigning titleholder Bridget Caldwell from Florissant. The competition will begin June 11 with interviews, talent, fitness and evening gown rounds — the winner will be crowned on June 13 at Missouri Military Academy with tickets available through the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce. ➤ Summit Christian Academy announced that senior Hannah Deister won the Kansas City Elks Lodge scholarship for Most Valuable Student for service—she received a $1,000 award and plans to attend Baylor University to study Communication Sciences and Disorders. Lee's Summit Tribune
