- ➤ A man is in custody after officers ended an hours-long standoff at a residence near East High School—close to Van Brunt Park. KCTV5
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hannah Shinn, a sophomore Health Sciences major from Lee's Summit at Bob Jones University, was named to the Spring 2025 President’s List—an honor for students earning a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Lee's Summit Tribune
- ➤ Overseas high school students who will study in the metro this fall face possible delays from visa restrictions, and local exchange expert Heidi Sullivan said host families are needed soon. She noted that while some embassies reported slower processing, students will still begin their studies as planned (families are urged to reach out promptly). KCTV5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Highway Patrol Troop A began working at its new headquarters in Lee’s Summit next to the Missouri Department of Transportation district office near 291 Highway and Colbern Road. The 15-million-plus square foot facility was announced in 2022 as part of a 291 widening project that includes a new frontage road for Lee’s Summit High School scheduled to begin at the end of 2025 and features a holding area, investigation space, improved technology, larger meeting rooms and extra training areas.
