GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jackson County Executive Frank White vetoed an ordinance that would require a special election on November 4 to choose an elected assessor—he called the measure costly and misleading for forcing an extra unbudgeted election. He added that the vote could be held during the scheduled August and November 2026 elections when no extra taxpayer money would be used.  KMBC
  • Jackson County and Kansas City Election Boards filed a lawsuit on July 10 arguing that the August 26 recall election for Jackson County executive Frank White violates state & federal election laws. The boards ask the court to postpone the vote to November 4 and schedule a case management conference for November 3 to ensure the election meets legal requirements.  KMBC
