  • State Troopers closed westbound I-70 from Oak Grove to Grain Valley—where they investigated a fatal crash—prompting drivers to avoid the area.  KCTV5

CRIME NEWS

  • A Lee's Summit man, 57, has been charged after he allegedly sent a threatening letter to a Jackson County prosecutor and his fingerprints matched those on two letters, with a warrant issued on July 28 while he remains free.  KCTV5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Missouri's back-to-school tax-free weekend starts Aug. 1 and runs through Aug. 3—exempting clothing under $100, school supplies, and personal computers from sales tax beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 1.  KMBC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mid-Continent Public Library fired an employee for allegedly misusing public funds discovered on July 17—law enforcement opened an investigation on July 29. Library leadership said staff are reviewing internal controls to strengthen oversight measures.  KMBC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medicaid turned 60 as Missouri doctors warned that upcoming changes under the Big Beautiful Bill — which will require most recipients to work except for disabled veterans and children — may cut coverage for up to 250,000 Missourians, and Senator Josh Hawley, who supported the bill, pledged to work on a compromise to protect local benefits.  KCTV5
