- ➤ Independence is hosting a Disaster Recovery Multi-Agency Resource Center today at the Fairmount Community Center on Cedar Avenue to help flood victims with housing, food, cleanup supplies, and mental health support after recent storms damaged 20 homes. The center is run by the city's Emergency Management Division—partnering with local community organizations—and advises those seeking help to call 211 and show proof of address. KCTV5

- ➤ Kansas City is part of a world record for a 515-mile-long megaflash—an unusually long, horizontal lightning discharge—certified by the World Meteorological Organization after reexamining a storm from October 2017. Officials said the flash stretched from eastern Texas to our area and is as long as the drive between Paris and Venice. KMBC

- ➤ 16th Circuit Court Judge Marty Seaton said he will decide on a recall election date for Jackson County Executive Frank White by Monday or Tuesday after reviewing the case this weekend, while Election Board Lead Tammy Brown testified that holding the vote in August may not allow enough time to prepare over 100 polling sites and more than 1,000 judges. Plaintiff Mark Anthony Jones and attorney Phil LeVota argued that delaying the recall would conflict with the county charter and leave residents waiting longer. KMBC
