- ➤ A Missouri resident who was water skiing at Lake of the Ozarks days ago has contracted lab-confirmed Naegleria fowleri—a rare amoeba infection that damages brain tissue—and is now receiving treatment in intensive care as health officials investigate the source and urge swimmers to limit water entering the nose.
