- ➤ Aviation enthusiasts gathered Saturday in Lee’s Summit for National Model Aviation Day as over 50 model planes flew, including jets, helicopters and airplanes. The Kansas City Radio Control Association hosted the event to teach kids about aviation and electronics + longtime pilot Jon Britt said crashes offer a chance to learn while funds raised benefited Angel Flight Central. - ➤ Friday's high reached 95 during a hot stretch as Lee's Summit welcomed the grand opening of Green Street—an outdoor event space and indoor farmers market—and Excelsior Springs Veterans Memorial Hall reopened after repairs following a car crash. KCTV5
- ➤ Families in Eastern Jackson County received free school supplies at Cable Dahmer Arena on Saturday when the Community Services League helped more than 2,500 families from the Independence and Fort Osage school districts—providing backpacks, notebooks, socks, shoes, and other essentials.
