- ➤ A family of seven is struggling to return home after an apartment fire on Oct. 20 damaged their residence—officials are assessing the structure's safety as recovery efforts continue. KCTV5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the Jackson County Legislature approved a resolution that caps commercial property tax increases at 15% to help many business owners. Interim executive Phil LeVota will send a letter instead of a tax bill—set to be mailed on Nov. 15—while legislators estimate up to 10,000 properties may be affected. KMBC
- ➤ The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is increasing patrols during the week of Oct. 20 to enforce laws against passing stopped school buses — drivers must stop when bus stop-arms extend and red lights flash. KCTV5
